At Higher Fire, membership gives you maximum flexibility and opportunity to pursue your own potter’s journey. Once you have mastered the basics in clay and are familiar with our studio and workflow, we strongly encourage you to become a member.
What’s included?
All memberships include:
- Classes at steep discounts
- Unlimited open studio hours
- Shelf for artwork & materials storage
- Access to a huge selection of cone 10 glazes made in-house
- Option to sell your work in our gallery and seasonal shows
Members purchase clay at studio prices (~$36-$55/bag) which includes cone 10 glazes and firing. Locker rental is available.
How much is membership?
- Regular Membership – $175-195/month
- 30 wheels to choose from
- High and low hand-building tables
- Huge texture library
- Firing Membership** – $165/month
- Clay-making is done in your home studio
- Firing and glazing are done with us
- Members must purchase clay at studio pricing, which includes glazes and firing
- Membership is month-to-month with no long-term commitment.
- Members get discounts for prepaying 6 months (5% off) or 12 months (10% off)
- Members enroll in autopay which may be stopped or cancelled at any time
Firing memberships are limited at each location based on kiln capacity and workflow. Availability may be restricted or waitlisted to ensure reliable turnaround times for all members. Please inquire about current availability at either location.
Discounted membership may be available in exchange for assistance with studio maintenance. Inquire within!
Membership is not intended for production potters or high-volume studio work.

Potential members must have at least 6 months of experience (anywhere) or have taken two classes with us. We have two amazing San Jose studios to serve you! Availability varies by location:
Higher Fire Downtown • 499 S. Market St • $175/month
JTown Clay • 520 N. 7th St • $195/month
** JTown Clay has a max of 50 spaces for firing members and is at capacity (full). Firing membership is available at HF-Downtown, or via waitlist at JTown Clay.
