Tues PM Lamps & Luminaires with Britt
Skill: Intermediate
Back by popular demand! Britt Jensen invites you to explore the intersection of function and sculpture by designing and building ceramic lamps! Using wheel-throwing as foundation, students learn techniques for throwing larger forms, combining multiple pieces, and altering them to create sculptural shapes. Along the way, we’ll discuss design principles such as proportion, silhouette, and the relationship between form and function. Students will also be introduced to basic lamp wiring and glazing techniques suited for lighting.
By the end of the course, each student will create a unique, functional lamp (or two) that reflects their individual style. Students should come to the first class with a few lamp ideas or reference images for inspiration!
