OBVARA FIRING WORKSHOP P.M.

Vasudha Chittar teaches a mini-workshop exploring the Obvara raku-firing technique, a traditional Eastern European pottery method that produces strikingly rustic and textured ceramic surfaces.

Pottery (bisqueware) is rapidly heated in a hot kiln, removed, and immediately dipped into a fermented mixture of flour, water, sugar, and yeast. The sudden cooling reaction and flow of the mixture over the ware creates distinctive patterns and earthy tones, giving each piece a raw, organic beauty with a primitive charm.

Each student may bring 3 bisque-fired pots of medium size (or 2 pieces if larger) made of stoneware clay with grog (BMIX w/grog OK).

Join us on Saturday Apr 12 from 2pm-5pm, and experience the magic of Obvara!

Tuition includes materials & firing, instruction & kiln supervision. Max 10 people. Extra pieces, or oversized items, may get fired for an additional cost — time & space permitting.
