Vasudha Chittar teaches a mini-workshop exploring horsehair raku firing on bisqueware prepared with mica-infused terra sigillata (mica pigment in terra sig creates colorful metallic and blushing effects).

Horsehair Raku is a pottery technique where strands of horsehair (and feathers) are applied to a hot, unglazed piece of pottery, leaving carbonized, linear impressions on the surface. The resulting carbonized marks create unique, one-of-a-kind designs. 

Join us on Wednesday Jun 18 from 2pm-5pm, and experience the magic of horsehair raku with mica!

Each student may bring 3 bisque-fired pots of medium size (or 2 pieces if larger) made of white clay body (BMIX or BMIX w/grog). Smooth surfaces are recommended as texture doesn’t play well with this process. At the workshop, students prepare their pieces with mica-infused terra sigillata just before the horsehair raku firings.

Tuition includes materials & firing, instruction & kiln supervision. Max 10 people. Extra pieces, or oversized items, may get fired for an additional cost — time & space permitting.
