Vasudha Chittar offers a mini-workshop exploring horsehair raku firing on bisqueware prepared with mica-infused terra sigillata (mica pigment in terra sig creates colorful metallic and blushing effects).

Horsehair Raku is a pottery technique where strands of horsehair (and feathers) are applied to a hot, unglazed piece of pottery, leaving carbonized, linear impressions on the surface. The resulting carbonized marks create unique, one-of-a-kind designs. 

Join us on Wednesday, Dec 10 from 1-4pm to experience the magic of horsehair raku with mica!

Each student may bring 3 bisque-fired pots of medium size (or 2 pieces if larger) made of white clay body (BMIX or BMIX w/grog). Smooth surfaces are recommended as texture doesn’t play well with this process. At the workshop, students prepare their pieces with mica-infused terra sigillata just before the horsehair raku firings.

Tuition includes materials and firing, instruction and kiln supervision. Max 10 people. Extra pieces, or oversized items, may get fired for an additional cost — time and space permitting.
