FLOUR & FIRE WORKSHOP I

A Sourdough & Ceramics Workshop

Join us for a hands-on workshop to learn the fundamentals of making & baking your own bread! In this new class, students work in the studio kitchen and at the pottery wheel.

Members Charles Welsh and Catherine Welsh-Osuna share their bread-making expertise while helping you to make your own boule — a traditional, rustic, round-shaped loaf of bread that you’ll bake at home. You’ll also make your own sourdough starter to take home for future loaves.

While learning to mix, slap and fold, and stretch and fold the dough, we bake bread in the electric kiln from dough that’s already proofed.

Over at the pottery wheels, Dan shows how to make a bread-baker known as a ‘cloche’, and everyone will use studio clay to make one of their own. It’s a full day!

Wednesday, Oct 15, 9am-4pm

Tuition $95 studio members, $110 non-member.  Includes ingredients for one loaf per person and bread-making tools that are yours to keep. Students may also use studio clay for the bread baker wheel project.

Bring your lunch and each of these items to the workshop:

  • Apron
  • Mixing bowl
  • Clean kitchen towel

For this workshop, everyone will make the same recipe with ingredients provided by the studio. Variations and recipe adjustments for breads you make at home will be discussed.
